Wangfujing station is named after Wangfujing Street, which lies in the region.
The station is rather disguised -- the only sign of a subway station is by the subway logo at two entrances and the subway signposts inside Oriental Plaza. The livery of the station at platform level is marble.

History
The station was built in the late 1990s and opened on September 28, 1999 as part of Subway Line 1's eastern extension.

Architecture
Wangfujing station is made up of three exits, which are only distinguished from regular underpasses with the subway logo. Exit A, which links directly into Oriental Plaza, is accessible from the plaza's Lower Ground. Follow the Subway signs.
Interior
Wangfujing station has two underground levels, with the platform on the lower level. Underground Level 1 is a through hall; passengers from Underground Level 2 can take any staircase or elevator to reach all exits on the upper level.
The station is supported by two rows of dark sand hexagonal columns at platform level.
